Put a lot of pressure on their children to succeed

Nowadays most parents put a lot of pressure on their children to succeed. What are the reasons for parents to do this? Does it have a positive or a negative effect on children in general?

In today world, people have fewer children than they have in the past. So they spend a lot of time on supporting and teaching their children as well as putting more expectation on their children. Some people agree with this method but others think that parent should consider it. This essay will discuss possible reasons and effects on children.

It is no doubt that almost parent have the best preparations for their children when they grow up. Nowadays, people need more knowledge and skills to get achievements in the future. So that, parent may have to focus more on their children to avoid something which may distract them on studying. Moreover, some parents want their children who may achieve more great successes in their life than other children. In Asia, family expectation is very important. In normal conversation, people always tell achievements of their kids. As a result, if their children are not well in studying parents may feel embarrassing.

It is inevitable that this method has many positive effects on children. Recently, a book named “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother” was published in 2011 which brought out a controversial discussion among parents in the world. The mom in this book required 2 daughters much and severely punished them when they were lazy or didn’t get high score. After all, her daughters passed over Harvard entrance examination and won 2 prizes of music.

However, it causes many disadvantages on children’s life. Under pressure, children try the best to do well, so they may not have enough time to play sports or get involve in outdoor activities. In addition, they may suffer some psychological illnesses such as stress or depression.

In conclusion, there are many causes when parent put pressure on their children. This method helps their children to catch useful skill and knowledge; however it also leads to some negatives for their mental health of children. In my opinion, parents should balance expectation of parent and requirement of their children in order to nurture their children well.

Imported programs

In many countries television shows many foreign-made programs. The dominance of imported entertainment is harmful to the cultures of these countries. Do you agree or disagree?

As cable television channel has bloomed and grown in Vietnam, more and more Vietnamese have watched a wide range of foreign TV programmers through hundreds of channels. Many people seem to take the view those foreign-made programs create negative impacts on culture, whereas others disagree with this ideas. From my own experiences, the imported programs are not harmful to our cultures.

There is no doubt that some serious effects on culture are made by foreign programs. First, it’s losing of our cultural identity. In the past, people in Asian had to eat much more differently than people Western, such as Asian usually consume rice while European use bread. Today, however, most of people in every corner in the world might eat the same food, for example fast food. Second, the young is affected radically by these programs. In present, few Vietnamese adolescent are interested in hearing folk music because foreign music programs such as K-pop or US-pop are dominant on air. Otherwise, watching a lot foreign movies may lead to change their behavior. According to many Vietnamese sociologists, increasing crime in youth has been caused by action movies on TV, recently.

However, foreign-made programs create variety positive things on our cultures. It is the best way to broaden our mind. Nowadays, armchair tourism is one of many comfortable ways which is chosen by audiences. They just sit in cozy house and study food, behavior… of people anywhere on Earth. What is more, these programs also diversify our culture. English was not as popular in 1990s in Vietnam, but it changed when many English films such as “Return to Eden” was broadcasted on national channel. And now, English is becoming the most dominant language in Vietnam. Last but not least, it is a new way of shaping cultural identity. Through watching imported programs, people have a clear vision about differences among various cultures.

To sum up, imported programs impact on our cultures both negative and positive.

Putting taxes on industrial companies

Industrial pollution is increasing all around the world. Some people say that the most effective way to tackle the problem is to tax companies that are causing the pollution. Other argues that there are other ways to control the situation. Discuss both views and give your opinion

Global warming is a terrible threat to human developing in present. Many people hold the belief that wasted and smoke from industrial zones causes it, so manufactures have to pay more taxes in order to reduce these damages of environment. Others argue this action cannot completely resolve this problem. This essay will discuss both positive and negative of this method.

There are many advantages when putting high taxes on industrial companies. Firstly, increasing budget for communities which industrial companies located. They will be willing to pay more money if they have more rights to improve their business. In 1990s, for example, authorities in Yunnan peaked at the highest amount of local budget when they approved leather companies produced here. Secondly, government can use this money to settle these harmful environmental effects. For instance, a buffer zone in Malaysian rain forest was build up by a project which was run by contribution from logger companies in Malaysia. As a result, different species in rainforest cannot destroy because they are protected in limited areas.

However, putting taxes on manufactures also brings a wide range of disadvantages. One reason is that the rule can reduce figure of products of these manufactures because production costs increases. Otherwise, consumers might affect by this solution. Industrial companies always make greater profits, so, if government introduces more taxes, price of products might be higher or quality of products might be worse. What is more, there are many industrial companies which have more contributions to keep environment such as obliged these protected environmental rules, donating for green experts or environmental organizations. So it is not fair when putting more taxes.

To sum up, putting taxes on industrial companies have both advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, disadvantages is outweigh advantages.

Unhealthy lifestyle

Unhealthy lifestyle leads to many health problems. Why do people still live an unhealthy lifestyle? What could be a solution for this problem?

Numbers of people who suffer from heart attack, diabetes or obesity are increasing rapidly in the 21 century. One cause of this problem is by unhealthy lifestyle. This essay will discuss some causes why people like unhealthy lifestyle and solutions to solve this issue.

To begin with, saving time is one of priorities in modern people’s life. For example, people usually spend hours on cooking for healthy diet. With processed food, people may take away 5 minutes for each meal although processed food has many negative effects on health such as high cholesterol… Secondly, there is more competitive in today material’s world than in the past, so that people may focus on their career if they want to be success. Ideally, most of people spend over 8 hours per day on working. As a consequence, they love sitting on cozy room rather than doing exercises outdoor when they come home.

One reason why loving unhealthy lifestyle is that people is fascinated by it. Despite the fact that drugs such as heroin, cigarettes… lead to a wide range of diseases or even death, numbers of people using are increasing.

There would not appear to be any simple way to deal with this issue. However, I think governments should impose heavy taxes upon companies which produce harmful products. Besides, governments also start massive campaigns to spread awareness of healthy lifestyle.  What is more, each individual needs to decide what priorities are and balances between working and relaxing.

My conclusion is that unhealthy lifestyle wouldn’t stop if governments and persons didn’t realize these disadvantages of it. However, these drawbacks can be reduced by efforts of both authorities and individuals.

Hard work and determination

Some people say success can be achieved through hard work and determination, others argue it is reached by using money and personal appearance. Discuss both views and give your opinion

Thomas Edison said “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration”. In today’s world, putting a lot effort into job and doing it well are keys which lead to success. However, others argue financial status and personal appearances which are important factors achieving success. This essay will discuss both sides of this idea.

It is no doubt that hard-work and determination are the cornerstones of each breakthrough especially in research and development. For example, when Galileo had discovered the secrets of solar system, he was sentenced as an anti-Christ, but he continued putting his efforts with his enthusiasm. He was, finally, able to convince all scientists at that time by his inventions and now he was known as the first astronomer. What is more, knowledge can be upgraded in long-term because knowledge is huge and people cannot study all things in short-term.

Besides this, it also helps to guarantee career status in the future. With efforts and patient, people gather enough expertise to face challenges that may be posted in jobs. For instance, a good doctor can diagnose patient’s diseases through symptoms because he or she had a lot experiences in it before. It results in decreasing time-curing and his reputation also increases.

On the other hand, wealth and beauty are advantages in some jobs. If, for example, an actress doesn’t have attractive appearance, she might not be success although she puts lot efforts on it. Another example is in medical areas, to find out a new medicine, pharmaceutical companies spend thousands of dollars to research it. It is not easy to do unless these companies had big budgets for it.

In conclusion, there are many factors to get achievements, however the key is hard work and determination.

To continue education until 18 years old

Some people think young people should be required to continue education until 18 years old. To what extent do you agree or disagree

In modern educational standards, almost students oblige to stay at school when they are 18 years old. Most of people strongly approve of this idea, whereas others think compulsory education needn’t do that. In my opinion, I totally agree that school attendance is mandatory for all children up to 18 years old.

One reason of increasing the school leaving age to 18 is that young people has more time to develop their personal character. According to psychological report, people under 18 years old cannot control their behavior and they are easily affected by fellow students. As a consequence, under authorities of teachers and parents, young people learn what is bad or good things. In addition, schools are place where young people study knowledge and make choices for their future career. In the modern world, companies need people who have high education and be qualified, so that, if young people don’t get higher education they might find jobs difficultly in the future.

What is more, more education is the investment in society’s future. Thanks to educational policies of governments around the world, quality of workforce has been increasing rapidly for decades. It also helps to ensure long-term improvement in economic because of increasing tax revenues.

However, increasing the school leaving age lead to economic burden because government pays much money for educational subsides in new school buildings, training teachers, books….In addition, many poor families cannot afford school fees for their children, so their children drop out of schools and earn money for living.

In conclusion, compulsory schooling also has some drawbacks but benefits are more positive influences on personal life and society’s future than drawbacks. Therefore, I believe that this policy should encourage in the long-term.

Money and hapiness

Many people think that money brings happiness, but others think that having too much money is a problem. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Wealth is a dream of almost people in the world because it makes a wide range of comfortable things for our life. However, others don’t agree with this idea. This essay will discuss both advantages and disadvantages of this view.

It is not denied that having much money brings many benefits for our lives. Firstly, people are able to afford for every demands. For example, David Beckham who is willing to pay thousands of dollars to buy the most expensive cars every year is one of the richest people in the world because he loves deeply speed. Secondly, future of the wealth’s children is covered. In normal families, children have to study hard and it is not easy to find good job after they grow up. In contrast, children in the wealth families may have never encountered these problems.

Another positive thing of wealthy is that it makes changes in the rich’s life because they can help other people with their wealthy. Bill Gates and Melinda Gates have billions of dollar but they haven’t spent for their own. In 2005, they found the non-government organization for women in Africa. Every year, they spend much money on training job and curing for African women. As a result, Bill Gates and Melinda Gates are becoming the most powerful persons in the world by their kindness.

Although there are many advantages of having much money, it also causes a lot disadvantages. The most struggle is that their children may have many destructive habits such as addicted drugs.  In addition, they tend to suffer from risks, for example kidnap…

To sum up, wealth provides both advantages and disadvantages. However, in my opinion, advantages outweigh disadvantages

Career and place of residence

Nowadays an increasing number of people change their career and place of residence several times during their life. Is this a positive or a negative development ?

In today’s material world, change jobs and houses are becoming more popular because it brings out a lot of advantages for life. However, many people believe that it also makes some disadvantages. This essay will discuss both two sides of this problem.

First of all, change jobs help people to move out of poverty. Every year, thousands of people in developing countries or undeveloped countries immigrate to UK because they hope to find well-paid jobs. So they can raise their families in their homeland. Secondly, it also helps to find favourable opportunities for career. For example, a singer in the North of Vietnam cannot be well-known singer as fast as a singer in the South of Vietnam. As a result, many singers has moved to Ho Chi Minh city which is the biggest city in the South of Vietnam to build up their long career.

An other benefit of changing jobs is gaining much of experiences and knowledge. In the UN organizations, members of its always do duties in different countries all around the world especially in the Third World. Through these missions, they provide their knowledge, whereas they can learn new languages or visit other beauty spots in these countries.

On the other hand, changing jobs and place of living make a wide range of negative things. It is not easy to get use to living in different countries. For example, immigrants always encounter cultural shock, at least in 1 years after they moved to a new nation.  In addition, they may suffer from discrimination in office because they cannot speak language as well as native speakers. So that, they may spend much time on finishing their tasks.

To sum up, change jobs and place of living has both positive and negative things. However, in my opinion, advantages is outweigh of disavantages.

Drug companies

Many people in undeveloped world die from diseases that are curable because they can’t afford the medication to treat themselves. Do you believe that drug companies in the developed world should be obliged to make their products available at reduced priced in these developed countries so that people not die unnecessarily.

Drug companies = Pharmaceutical Corporations

Many people in tropical countries of the Third World die of preventable, curable diseases every year because they cannot afford medicines. Most of people believe that decreasing medicine costs is the responsibility of pharmaceutical corporations in developed countries. However, many people think this idea will be reconsidered.

There are clearly certain advantages of cheap medicines. Many patients will be cured in undeveloped countries. For example, number of malarial patients decreased after cost of antimalarial medications had gone down in 1998 in Latin American. Nevertheless, cheap medicines also have clear drawback. Drug companies may provide medicines which have poor quality to undeveloped countries such as overdue pills. As a result, time of curing may be longer or patients may have allergies when using these cheap medicines.

Another benefit of declining costs of medicines is gaining reputation for pharmaceutical corporations. Ideally speaking, medicinal donations from drug companies are always welcomed in undeveloped countries, so that governments of these countries announce charities to other countries in the world. In addition, customers will be affected by these donated campaigns. For instances, profit of Takeda Pharmaceutical Corporations in 2010 went up double than in 2009 in Japan when they provided a mass of pills to cure HIV patients in Africa. However, declining costs of medicines also bring out a lot of obstacles for drug companies. Providing cheap medicines may lead to reduced profits especially research and development budgets. As a result, they cannot produce new medications to treat other diseases.

In conclusion, providing cheap pills to undeveloped countries is essential because of these advantages. However, in my opinion, it is not only the responsibility of drug companies, it also needs a joint – effort from all governments.
